The black Sony Alpha a5000 Mirrorless Digital Camera is a versatile and compact mirrorless camera that features a 20.1 megapixel APS-C-sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor to produce high-resolution still images and Full HD movies with marked low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 16000. Additionally, the camera is able to produce images with a wide dynamic range and sensitivity to ISO 16000. The image processor plays a significant role in reducing the amount of background noise throughout the camera and also makes it possible for the camera to record at speeds of up to 3.5 frames per second when set to the Speed Priority Continuous mode.

A 3.0 megapixel sensor is required for live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation “The a5000 incorporates a 460.8k-dot LCD monitor that can be tilted to an angle of 180 degrees. This design allows the monitor to better serve users working from low viewing angles as well as in front of the camera. A multitude of the camera’s features, such as Picture Effects, Auto HDR mode, and Auto Object Framing, as well as the ability to connect to mobile devices via built-in wireless and NFC connectivity, can be accessed with relative ease thanks to the camera’s large screen and user-friendly menu interface.

In addition to the body of the camera, you will also receive a Sony E-mount 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Retractable Zoom Lens. This lens has a focal length range that is similar to 24-75mm when shot with a 35mm camera. This variety of views is well-suited for everyday shooting, and it is further enhanced by the presence of Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake to further improve the quality of the images captured. The incorporation of one extra-low dispersion element and four aspherical elements, in addition to the incorporation of Power Zoom technology, helps to reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the entire zoom range and contributes to a high level of overall sharpness. Power Zoom technology also enables electronic control over the position of the zoom.

Together, the 20.1-megapixel APS-C-sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and the BIONZ X image processor are able to produce high-resolution, detailed imagery with minimal noise. This imagery also possesses notable low-light quality and sensitivity up to ISO 16000. The processor also helps to provide a great deal of speed throughout the camera system. This includes a rapid autofocus system with 25 points of contrast detection, a top continuous shooting rate of 3.5 frames per second, and the ability to record Full HD video in 1080p or p at a number of different frame rates.

The recording of Full HD 1080 video is enabled at both the 60i and 24p frame rates, allowing users to create high definition movies that have a fluid, cinematic appearance. Videos are captured utilizing the high-quality AVCHD codec, while sound is captured with the Dolby Digital AC-3 format by a stereo microphone that is incorporated into the device. In addition, the Internet-friendly MP4 format supports the 1440 x 1080p, 1280 x 720p, and 640 x 480p video resolution formats.

The ability to rapidly transfer imagery to mobile devices for direct sharing online to social networking sites, via email, and to cloud storage sites is made possible by the a5000’s built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. NFC (Near Field Communication) is also supported, which enables a connection to be made between the camera and compatible mobile devices with just the touch of a button; there is no need for complicated initialization.

A 3.0 megapixel sensor is required for live view monitoring, image playback and review, as well as menu navigation “LCD monitor with 460.8k dots is built into the body of the camera and features a design that allows it to tilt 180 degrees, making it easier to use from low angles as well as directly in front of the camera.

The 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Retractable Zoom Lens that comes standard with the camera has a focal length range that is similar to 24-75mm when shot with a 35mm camera. This lens covers views ranging from wide-angle to portrait-length, making it suitable for use in a broad variety of settings. It is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, which helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps, which is a feature that is of great assistance while working in low-light circumstances and with higher zoom magnifications. One extra-low dispersion element and four aspherical elements are incorporated into the optical construction to help reduce chromatic aberrations as well as increase clarity, sharpness, and contrast. In addition, the Power Zoom electronically-driven zoom mechanism brings greater efficiency to the process of controlling the zoom position of the lens. This can be accomplished through the use of one extra-low dispersion element.

The new Sony A5000 is a rather modest refresh of the NEX-3N cameras that were released the year before. Sony has removed the NEX branding, upgraded the image sensor and processor, added wi-fi and NFC connectivity, improved the handgrip, and implemented a more user-friendly Alpha menu system in the new model. Upgraders from small or smartphone cameras should strongly consider the A5000 as their first “real” camera despite the fact that its price has increased slightly.
The small and lightweight Sony A5000 is a great introduction to interchangeable lens cameras because it looks and feels very much like a compact camera thanks to the combination of the finger-tip zoom lever and the 16-50mm power-zoom kit lens. This makes the Sony A5000 an excellent choice for beginners. The new A5000 manages to keep the built-in flash and 180-degree tilting LCD screen of its predecessor, the A4000, despite the new A5000’s tiny size. However, we are unhappy that the spec of the LCD has not been enhanced from 460K dots, as this would have been a welcome upgrade. The revised handgrip is somewhat more comfortable to grasp than the one on the NEX-3N, although the difference is not significant enough to be immediately noticeable. Even though there aren’t too many NFC-enabled gadgets on the market at the present, the built-in wi-fi and NFC connection that was taken from the more costly NEX-5T camera make it simple to share your photographs and manage the A5000 from a distance.
