The Olympus Tough TG-6 is the premium underwater camera that the business has produced for the sixth generation. It has a sensor with a resolution of 12 megabytes, an optical zoom lens with a magnification factor of 4 times, several sensors, and, of course, robust protection against the weather. Those that fall into the first category will find that the TG-6’s auto mode is capable of dealing with virtually any circumstance, and the camera’s several scene settings are neatly arranged. Going underwater? Simply turn the mode dial to the ‘fish’ position, and you will be presented with five options that are tailored to the circumstances you are now in. It is unfortunate that Olympus did not develop a simplified version of its menu system for users with less experience, as these people are likely to be confused by the variety of options and the way they are organized.

The TG-6 caters to enthusiasts by providing some manual options, but not the entire range of features that one would anticipate seeing on a higher-end camera. Although you have the ability to change the aperture, you are only given three options at any given moment. This is also the reason why the camera does not include modes for manual exposure or shutter priority settings. It is important to note that you are unable to make any adjustments to the exposure compensation when the camera is set to auto mode; instead, you will need to select either the program or aperture priority mode.

Olympus provides its customers with a vast selection of accessories, such as an underwater housing that protects the camera to a depth of 15 meters (50 feet), wide-angle and fisheye conversion lenses, the capability to wirelessly fire Olympus flashes (which, of course, also need to be protected by housings), and a great deal more.

Outdoor enthusiasts, such as hikers and other travelers, may make use of the camera’s sensors and tracking capabilities to piece together exactly where they were on their journey at the time that a photograph was taken. The environmental sensors consist of a global positioning system (GPS), altimeter/depth gauge, compass, accelerometer, and temperature. The thermometer on the camera that we tested wasn’t even close to accurate, but the other sensors worked just well. When you are out and about, hitting the ‘info’ button on your camera will display all of the information that it is now gathering.

Last but not least, the TG-6’s plethora of close-up functions not only enable users to photograph things from a distance of 1 centimeter (0.4 inches), but the ‘digital microscope’ mode also enables users to zoom in up to four times farther, although at the expense of image quality. In order to give you more creative control over your macro photography, Olympus manufactures and sells a ring light as well as a flash diffuser.

These days, extremely incremental changes are made to tiny cameras, and the TG-6 is no exception to this rule. When compared to the TG-5, only few changes have been made, the most notable of which being a higher resolution LCD, extra macro and underwater modes, and focus bracketing. Additionally, ghosting and flare have been reduced because to the improvements that have been implemented.

Olympus did not fix the most aggravating thing about the screen on the TG-5, which is that it scratches much too quickly. Although the better resolution LCD is obviously wonderful, Olympus did not address this issue. It is strongly suggested that you purchase a screen protector. It is important to note that the screen does not support touch input; nevertheless, it is important to keep in mind that this capability becomes nearly worthless when displays (or your hands) become wet. In contrast to the TG-5, which only featured a single preset for underwater white balance, the TG-6 features three: one each for shallow water, medium water, and deep water. Macro and microscopic are the names of the new underwater shooting modes that have been introduced.
